16th November
Despite our best efforts to sleep in,
we were up at 8am, but at least the view isn't too bad!
We had a lazy
morning and met a couple from the Stray bus for some tubing. We took
a tuk tuk up river and were dropped off with our tubes and, surprise
surprise, we floated down the river. We didn't do much, or anything
really, but it was really nice to just float down the river, looking
at the mountains and for the first time in days – not sweating! I
left the tube a few times and had a swim while Rory looked after my
camera, which I am pleased to report, survived another day in the
water! I think some moisture got in the case but everything is
working as it should so I'm not too worried!
After a few hours we were nearing the
end of our tubing when all of a sudden some kid swam over and
attached himself to us. We thought he wanted a lift down the river
but he became increasingly pushy and kept telling us to get out of
the water. He was really bossy for a little kid so we followed him
out and then he started trying to take our tubes and asking for
money. Had we given him our tubes we would have missed out on our
deposits of 60,000Kip so I'm glad we were brave enough to shake off
the ten year old!
We spent the rest of the day relaxing
and went out for a fairly average dinner at the Irish bar. There
isn't much to do in Vang Vieng, especially at night so once we
finished dinner we came back to the hotel and watched Thor! The one
downside to this hotel is that we can't get wifi in our room, only in
reception but I'll take the view over wifi any day!
