Today was our last morning in Vang
Vieng which I was actually quite sad about. When we arrived I wasn't
fussed on the place but there was quite a lot to do and in case you
didn't know, the view from our hotel was pretty perfect! But the show
must go on so we went and met our fellow Stray travellers. We were
ready to set off when we realised that once again Stray had got their
math wrong. There were eleven of us, including the guide and driver,
but were were all about to pile in to an eight seater bus! Stray
hadn't booked two passengers on the bus so we waited around until
another bus could be sent. Despite being a pain, it's pretty
unorganised and has only lessened my opinion of Stray. Eventually we got on a bus and headed towards Vientiane, stopping at some local caves for a quick look around.
As we had left later than anticipated,
which meant that we didn't arrive in Vientiane until much later,
meaning that all the temples and museums were closed and our Stray
guide couldn't take us on our free city tour... Apparently we'll be
going on one tomorrow but with the way things have been going, that
would be a miracle! In an attempt to at least see some of the city
Rory and I took a walk around. It was actually quite nice. Some
places looked like home, or at least similar to a city at home but
then you'd see people kneeling and offering prayers or trying to sell
street food and baggy clothes!
After a day of feeling pretty rough we
decided to get a pizza and eat it in our hotel room while watching
one of the English channels – HBO which actually has some really
good films, including Captain America which I happily watched while
Rory snored his way through it! All in all I haven't minded
Vientiane, I just wish we could have had a better chance to explore
it!
